A Chance For a Play

By Param

“Guys and Dolls Junior” was put on by Mount Madonna Middle School at the MMS school gym at the end of January. It is a musical written by Frank Loesser and is based on a book by Jo Swerling and Abe Burrows. The musical is about a gambler and a missionary who fall in love, and it is set in 1953.

I saw the play three times. The song “Paul Revere” was sung in chorus at the beginning of the play. It was very exciting. It was sung by some gamblers. The “craps in the sewer” scene where everybody lost a bet to Sky Masterson was very realistic.

Rami, a sixth grader, was in the play. She said, “My favorite moments in the play were when people forgot their lines and other characters had to improvise.” Rami’s favorite song was “If I Were a Bell.” This song was sung by the missionary Sarah.

The director, Sampad Martin Kachuck, commented, “A play takes a community of actors onstage. To be successful, each does their part to make the whole experience great. I thought it was a great play because people worked so hard on it.”
